A Man Got Beat Up by the Easter Bunny on a Downtown Street

Around 6:45 a.m. on April 22, 2019, in downtown Orlando, Florida, a man bumped into a woman and they exchanged words — then a person in a full Easter Bunny costume stepped in, and it turned into a fistfight.

A bystander filmed the scene and it spread online. Police and a passerby eventually pulled the two apart. No identities, injuries, or charges were made public.

Easter is one of the most important holidays in Christianity, and from the folk tradition of a rabbit delivering eggs on Easter morning, costumed Easter Bunnies turn up at events everywhere. Orlando, home to Walt Disney World, is a tourist city whose downtown is packed with bars, and the early hours of weekends and holidays are when trouble between drinkers tends to break out. Because arrest records and police calls are public in Florida, street scenes like this surface easily, video and all.

From Jake

Just another Florida morning. …Okay, not quite. But downtown Orlando is roughest in the early hours of a holiday, right when the bars close and the scuffles start. There just happened to be a costume in the middle of it. Some mornings the hand that’s supposed to hand out eggs ends up a fist instead. In the footage, the bunny head stayed on the entire time. That’s Easter in Florida.
